I have a new mom friend! Her name is Beth Bowen and we were destined to meet. I first heard about Beth from my friend Stefanie Fair when she was on my podcast a few years ago. Stefanie suggested I reach out to Beth at that time to have her on my show but I dropped the ball and it fell through the cracks. Cut to a year and a half later and Beth and I were invited to speak on a panel at Influential Summit in Carlsbad where we bonded over our love/hate relationship with social media and the entertainment industry.

Beth came to Hollywood to pursue a career in acting. She had success but ultimately ended up marrying someone she thought was her prince charming and leaving it all behind. More than a decade later she found herself missing something inside that many women think is over when they become moms: her career. I’ve said this a thousand times on this show and I’ll say it again: wanting a career and being a mom do not have to be mutually exclusive. It’s okay to want to work and build a business or life outside of the home in the same way that it’s okay NOT to want to pursue a career and be a homemaker instead. Both are perfectly normal and healthy options and we should support our friends and the women in our lives no matter what they choose.

While exploring her options to return to showbiz, Beth was introduced to Jill Spivack from Sleepy Planet. Jill was working on a show for Bravo called “There Goes The Motherhood” about a support group for moms. Well, you know if it’s Bravo there will be drama no matter how well-intentioned the women on the show are. Beth talks about how she feels the producers really set her up to fail in some ways and pitted cast members against each other. Does this sound like something Bravo would do? Any Housewives fans know exactly what we’re talking about. You’ll have to listen to this episode to get the full dish on working in reality TV and why she thinks her show was cancelled after one season.

Now Beth is a divorced, single mom of four who’s trying to reinvent herself while pursuing her passion. These days you can find her in her art studio creating and painting and finding success. She was just asked to show her art at the Contemporary Art Fair in Carrousel du Louvre Paris during the Cannes Film Festival which is a huge honor. She says sharing something so personal can be a challenge, but not as challenging as being a Bravo star.

You can follow Beth Bowen on her personal Instagram and her Instagram art feed as well.
