The Brooker gals got to venture out of the podcast studio today for the 4th Annual Red CARpet Safety event hosted by Ali Landry and the Favored.by app at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. We had such a blast! It was 97 degrees in LA, but we felt totally cool walking the red carpet (Channing’s first time!)

The goal of the event was to raise awareness about car seat safety, and other areas of safety for kids (household, bath time etc).  According to the Safe Kids Worldwide website, 73% percent of car seats are not used or installed correctly . And, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration did a study and found 59% of car seats were installed or used incorrectly (via US DOT). That’s a staggering number of children riding around in potentially dangerous situations.  So an event like this is a great way to help spark a conversation, or maybe serve as a reminder for parents to have their car seats checked for proper installation. It’s also pretty great that it coincides with National Child Passenger Safety Week. Organizers had car seat technicians available to check car seats of guests attending the event. We actually had ours done a while ago as part of a free service by the California Highway Patrol. The NHTSA has a great website called Seatcheck.org you can use to see if the Highway Patrol or other organizations in your area offer free installations. If you need your seat checked, or are unsure in any way, go there now!

I should point out the event wasn’t all about serious safety stuff. There was a lot of fun products to sample as well! Several vendors set up their wares and we got to check out everything from the latest in healthy snacks for parents and kids, to cool new toys, gadgets (hello grape cutter, I’m looking at you!) and body care items. Chan took her first spin on a scooter called The Micro Mini (see scooter pic!) She wanted to ride every color. She also loved these cute little fruit snacks from Matt’s Munchies, like a fruit roll-up, but more natural. There were so many great booths to visit and I know I’m missing a ton so I’ll have to do a follow up post.

And those who know me know I never drink energy drinks or juice or anything healthy. It’s just not my thing. But I decided to get outside my comfort zone today and try this yummy protein energy drink from healthy mama. So glad I did! It was delish! And we had an awesome convo with the ladies from UPPAbaby, the makers of my kick ass stroller. Seriously, Chris can tell you I drooled over the UPPAbaby Cruz for months before Channing was born. It’s my dream stroller!

Add to that some sweet celeb sightings like Selma Blair, Kyle Richards, and Taye Diggs to name a few and I’d say we girls had a pretty cool day. Attitude-wise, not temperature. Cause it was crazy hot! Such a wonderful event and we were so thrilled to go.  (And a huge thank you to my friend Jill Simonian, The Fab Mom, for thinking of us for the event!)
