My guest this week is YouTube star and social media mogul GloZell! This woman puts her life on the Internet every week and it’s paying off big time. Even though I have a podcast and website and it SEEMS like I share all my business, I don’t share the inner workings of my day-to-day life, at least not the way GloZell does. And it’s that no holds bare visibility into her life that’s created millions of fans around the world (called GloBugs).

GloZell has more than 4.5 million YouTube subscribers, 1.4 million followers on Instagram, and just under 1 million on Facebook. Holy. Crap. That’s amazing! For those not in the know, GloZell has been creating funny characters and videos on her official YouTube Channel since 2008. They are quirky, outrageous, silly, and hilarious creations that can come only from the mind of GloZell. She’s even done some incredibly high profile interviews with celebrities and President Obama. Her following is so popular she is now a star in her own right.

She also currently voices “Grandma Rosiepuff” in the movie Trolls. She tells me what it was like branching out her brand and working with Justin Timberlake on a huge Dreamworks film.

During our interview she was just as funny and open as you’ve seen her be in her videos. She tells me why she created her own YouTube channel, how she deals with haters, and how something as simple as green lipstick changed her life. I wanted to know if she ever feels any shade from actors because, let’s be honest, we can be a bit puritanical when it comes to our “art”. Many actors poo-poo the idea of social media as a tool to help elevate their acting and to that I say, please look at GloZell’s popularity then tell me how that short film is opening doors for you.

Her most recent adventure has been documenting her journey into motherhood in a docuseries called “Glo All In” on Awestruck-a digital lifestyle entertainment brand for millennial moms. This woman bravely exposes her most intimate moments of dealing with infertility and shares it with millions of people. I can’t even imagine what that would be like. I think I’m brave when I tweet about getting a new bra!

In this interview we talk about why she waited so long to take steps toward motherhood. She is very open about the fact that she didn’t know it would be a struggle because so many women in the public eye seem to be having babies well into their 40’s, which is the exception not the norm.

You can hear her beam with pride when she talks about finding a surrogate, and eventually giving birth to her daughter, O’Zell Gloriana De Green Simon. Watch the video. I dare you not to bawl like a baby. Not saying I did. (But I did)

A lot of people may not know, but GloZell actually has a degree in musical theater from The University Of Florida and has trained at The Groundlings in LA. She also attended 600 consecutive tapings of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and blogged about her experiences. Honestly I’m sure there is a ton of interesting tidbits we don’t know about GloZell in spite of her thousands of videos. Now that she’s a mama I bet we can expect to see a whole new side of her life that even more people will relate to and find inspiring. And knowing GloZell, she’ll have us laughing through it all.
