Colin tells me he’s recognized most for his work on the SyFy show Eureka (he’s also the Maytag Man!) where he played Sheriff Jack Carter. My husband Chris was a fan of the show so as a result, I watched a lot of Eureka. But Colin has actually been a working actor since he landed in LA from Canada in the 90’s. We talked about how different the industry is now for actors meaning, no more headshot drop offs and going to your agents office to pick up sides. Every thing is done online which means anyone in the world can be considered for a role now. That’s a lot of competition in an industry that’s already saturated.
Speaking of the digital age, Colin tells me he doesn’t feel pressure to post about his life so he skips out on most of the social media hoopla. This is a mindset that’s virtually unheard of in today’s industry. Many stars are pressured to constantly post about their personal lives and drive traffic to their social media. I feel that pressure and I’m nowhere near as a big a celebrity as someone like Colin. You’ll love hearing what he said about it and how his agents feel.
We also talk about how his focus has completely changed since becoming a father. He’s now more particular about the roles and projects he takes on because he truly wants to be there for his son. That’s a huge challenge in an industry that regularly demands 12-14 hour days and to be away from home for months at a time. So how has it affected his career? You’ll have to listen to this episode to find out.
