Things are blowing up around here. You could say we’re going Atomic! That’s because I interview Ellie Knaus, host of the popular Atomic Moms podcast. It was so much fun talking shop with a fellow podcasting mama. I’ve decided we’re basically twins! Ellie is a mama actor (Undateable, Happy Endings) like me with a cute little girl, and she has a kick ass podcast. She’s also just about the sweetest person I’ve ever met.
Okay, maybe we’re not twins.
Ellie describes Atomic Moms as a “weekly parenting podcast about the joys and complexities of caring for our little ones and ourselves.” She chats with authors, parenting experts and caregivers on their expertise in a variety of topics. If you’re looking for inspiration and affirmation, this is a great show for you.
Okay, maybe we’re more like similar siblings.
Atomic Moms frequently tops the iTunes charts in the ‘Kids & Family’ section and Ellie is also a contributor for Huffington Post, AOL.com, and Babble. In this episode, we bond over our mutual frustration with the challenges of being a mom actor and why we turned to podcasting as a creative outlet. Ellie reveals why she’s no longer sharing hosting duties with Atomic Moms co-founder Bianca Kajlich, a story that proves women can part ways in business AND still be friends!
We admit the areas we feel like we’re failing in, which is not an easy thing to do. But no one is perfect right? Even the busiest of moms will tell you some things fall through the cracks. We talk about which “apps” in life we need to close in order to open new “apps.” And what exactly the tribunal of assholes is saying inside Ellie’s head. Just listen to the show. Trust me, it will make sense.
We also talk about why, unlike in acting, the world of podcasting is far less competitive and more inclusive. Anyone can have a podcast no matter what you look like, sound like, or smell like. And you don’t have to audition to be on it. We agree that
See? Twins!
I hope you enjoy my conversation with Ellie. I learned a lot about my fellow podcasting mama and count myself lucky to be in such great company.
