This is a big day in Hollywood. A day where we can stop lamenting about Trump for a second and focus on what really matters: The 2017 Academy Awards Nominees.
Kidding of course. But it is a nice reprieve from politics and the inevitable end of the world. I’m sure many celebs and industry folks were up early this morning watching the announcement. I never believe them when they say they aren’t waiting by the phone. It’s the Oscars. Of course you were waiting by the phone.
This year the Academy broadcast the nominations announcement on the Internet instead of live in front of the press. Announcers included Jennifer Hudson, Brie Larson, Emmanuel Lubezki, Jason Reitman, Ken Watanabe and Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs.
The top contender La La Land landed 14 nominations-tying the record with Titanic and All About Eve for most in Academy history. The Academy is trying to move past two #OscarsSoWhite years by honoring six black actors — a record — and including diverse films like “Moonlight,” “Fences” and “Hidden Figures” in the best picture race. What do you think? Did they diversify enough or is there room for improvement?
The 2017 Oscars will take place on Feb. 26 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and will air live at 5:30 p.m. PT and be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
