We have a new addiction around our house. It’s called Splash and Bubbles: a groundbreaking new series from The Jim Henson Company that airs on PBS Kids. But now The Jim Henson Company and PBS Kids are stepping it up a notch with the premiere of the first Splash and Bubbles movie event.

Splash and Bubbles tells the story of Splash, the yellow fusilier fish, and his pal Bubbles, the Mandarin Dragonet, as they explore the world’s ocean habitats, all while making new friends and learning valuable life lessons under the sea.

When I recently spent the day at The Jim Henson Company I was treated to a sneak peak behind the scenes of an episode of Splash and Bubbles. Executive Producer Halle Stanford told me the show was developed with an advisory panel of top marine biologists, digital innovators and educators.

The 40-episode series also introduces:

  • Marine biology curriculum
  • Focus on themes of diversity and individuality
  • The importance of taking care of our oceans
  • Concepts of a good ecological balance

Now kids can watch a new one-hour special called “One Big Ocean”. The movie will launch in tandem with the PBS KIDS 24/7 channel and live stream on Monday, January 16, and will air across all PBS KIDS platforms. In the one-hour special, kids will learn about marine life while also discovering the great ripple effect their small gestures can have on a much larger community. In the movie, the Reeftown friends learn that we are all part of one big ocean.

“One Big Ocean” will repeat throughout the month on PBS KIDS and the PBS KIDS 24/7 channel and live stream. It will also be available for free on both pbskids.org and the PBS KIDS Video App, which is accessible on a variety of mobile devices and platforms such as Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Xbox One and Chromecast. Additional new episodes from SPLASH AND BUBBLES will also debut throughout the week (check local listings).

Splash and Bubbles was created by John Tartaglia (Johnny &The Sprite), the Jim Henson Company (Dinosaur Train) and Herschend Enterprises (Harlem Globetrotters).
