Sometimes you get just a feeling about someone when you meet them. Like they are down-to-earth and would make a great friend. That’s what I felt when I met Courtney Lopez, wife of host and actor Mario Lopez. We were introduced through our mutual friend Erin Ziering at a taping of Erin’s talk show and immediately clicked. I was surprised and delighted to find out just how much we have in common.

Courtney used to perform on Broadway as an actress and dancer and eventually made her way to LA. She met Mario while they were both starring in A Chorus Line and they had an instant connection. Now many moons later they have two kids and a third on the way. And even though she is due any minute now, she took time out to be a guest on my show.  We talked about everything from the challenges of living up to the image of a Hollywood wife, to focusing on family instead of a career.

I loved her honesty when we talked about being a hands on mom. She doesn’t miss the days of running to auditions, or performing in the chorus. She is perfectly content to be a mom and wife who supports her husbands career. Too often we put pressure on ourselves to live up to an expectation of career, family, and looking fabulous while doing it. Sometimes it’s okay to just say, I want to focus on my family and that’s enough.

There’s nothing more frustrating than when you’re on opposite sides of the coin when it comes to work and family but they aren’t.  Courtney says she and Mario are on the same page and it truly makes for a happy home life.

And, Courtney and Mario have found a way to work together that fits in with their lives and doesn’t compromise family time. They co-host a nationally syndicated radio show called “ON With Mario Lopez” on iHeart Radio. It’s really fun to listen to them banter in only the way that a married couple can. You can also keep up with the Lopez’ as they become a family of five! Make sure you follow Courtney on her Instagram at @courtneym_lopez. And show her lots of love because she’s about to enter the newborn phase again and we all remember what that’s like.  Can’t wait to meet your new little one and see if it’s a boy or girl – they aren’t finding out until the big day!
