It’s time for the 68th Annual Emmy Awards and once again I will be watching from my couch. Or work rather because I have to work that night. I feel the same way about the Emmy’s as I do about the Academy Awards: They are my Super Bowl.
Every year I can’t wait to see who gets recognized for their work in front of and behind the camera in television. Most people only see the glitz and glamor of life as an actor, but as someone who has spent a lot of long hours on set, and hustling between auditions, networking my ass off etc. I can tell you this business is a lot of hard work. And I’m not even at the “level” of success that most of these people are. Sometimes I wonder if once I reach that goal, if I’ll burn out and just want to take a nap.
But then I think, there’s a chance I could go to a fancy awards show and get a pretty golden statue in recognition of all my hard work. It might sound superficial to you but I don’t care. Not everyone wants to have the goals of “inner fulfillment” and “doing their craft”. Some of us just want to be told we’re the best! Winners!
Okay, that’s super shallow and I realize that. I’m still excited for this year’s Emmy’s.
Here’s a few of the winners I’m predicting:
- Outstanding Comedy Series – Transparent
- Outstanding Drama Series – Game of Thrones
- Lead Actor in a Comedy Series – Jeffery Tambor
- Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series – Lily Tomlin
- Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series – Keegan-Michael Key
- Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series – Kate McKinnon
The ceremony will be broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater and will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the second time.
The show begins at 8pm EST on ABC, which will also stream the Emmys on its app.
TV stars including Aziz Ansari, Anthony Anderson, Kristen Bell and Priyanka Chopra, among others, will present the awards during the program.
